Klaus Galensa joined Siemens AG in Germany more than ten years ago. He is a systems engineer in telecommunications. He also worked as a software developer for Siemens in Florida. Galensa is responsible for performance, traffic management, and quality of service issues in wireless access networks, so he carefully studies many technical papers, and then hopes for a brainstorm that solves his technical problems. Since that usually does not work, he often meets with other engineers, drinking coffee until somebody has a flash of inspiration. Currently, he is trying to improve the capacity of nodes in third generation radio access networks.

As a teenager, Galensa wanted to become a mathematician, but then read W. Ross Ashby's An introduction to cybernetics, and decided to study computer science at the University of Bremen. He never lost his knack for mathematics, though.

His technical interests are in wireless communications, system performance analysis, stochastic modeling, real time operating systems, and teletraffic theory.

Galensa's personal interests are photography, French sociology, and ballroom dancing. He is married, and has a young son.

   Algebraic and stochastic coding theory
Kythe D., Kythe P., CRC Press, Inc., Boca Raton, FL, 2012. 512 pp.  Type: Book (978-1-439881-81-1)

Modern communication and information systems are based on the reliable yet efficient transmission of information. Communication channels are plagued by noise and are thus susceptible to errors, regardless of whether they involve transm...

Interference cancellation using space-time processing and precoding design
Li F., Springer Publishing Company, Incorporated, New York, NY, 2012. 108 pp.  Type: Book (978-3-642307-11-9)

Cellular communication networks are interference limited rather than noise limited. Interference differs from noise in that it is caused by other devices, such as other mobile devices using the same network. Whereas noise can be overco...

   Beginning Arduino programming
Evans B., Apress, Berkeley, CA, 2011. 272 pp.  Type: Book (978-1-430237-77-8)

A small computer on a single integrated circuit is called a microcontroller. In most cases, it comprises a microprocessor, memory, and input/output peripherals. Sometimes, the microcontroller is already part of a single printed circuit...

  Beginning Arduino
McRoberts M., Apress, Berkeley, CA, 2010. 472 pp.  Type: Book (978-1-430232-40-7)

Many experimental microcontroller boards are available for purchase. However, none seem to be as popular with nonelectronics hobbyists as the Arduino board. The main reason for its popularity is probably its openness. The Arduino hardw...

   What is thought?
Baum E., MIT Press, Cambridge, MA, 2004.  Type: Book (9780262025485)

When a computer scientist like Eric Baum bluntly states that the mind is a computer program, he is asking for harsh reviews from various academic groups, except for most computer scientists, who, like me, willingly agree with this stat...
