Developing teamwork through experiential learning
Ferguson C., Little S., McClelland M. The Journal of Computing Sciences in Colleges16 (2):268-280,2001.Type:Article
Date Reviewed: Mar 1 2002

This paper contains some interesting tips on how to improve teamwork on collaborative projects. The methods discussed are based on Ropes Courses.

Unfortunately, the authors do not discuss the concept and implementation of Ropes Courses in much detail, and so it was difficult to understand exactly how they work. In any case, the authors report that “Perceptions of satisfaction of the Ropes Courses were obtained from a survey on the extent participation helped build self-esteem, confidence, character, trust in others; and stimulated teamwork and cooperation with others.” (p. 268)

A model based on this study is proposed. As the authors note, there are several features of the model that could usefully be explored further. It will be interesting to see if they, or others, will do so.
