Date Reviewed: 04/04/18

Yang et al. set out their objective of pursuing the latest research simulations and evaluations of possible 5G candidate technologies to comply with the identified International Telecommunication Union (ITU) 5G vision and key performance indicators (KPI) for the commercialization and deployment of 5G mobile communications systems. This is presented in the book from the perspective of technical research and development (R&D) engineers.

The book starts by presenting theoretical background research for key concepts, history, and the latest developments and implications to 5G, and then builds on this to provide more technical aspects such as the development of large-scale system-level software testbed and hardware simulations, with real-time capabilities.

Some of the technologies reviewed include millimeter wave communication, device to device, flexible spectrum usage, ultra-dense wireless networks, and so on.

The book also looks into possible challenges such as those posed by new technologies for testing and evaluating 5G.
