Applications of modern technology in various traditional domains are gaining momentum. In particular, various modern technologies in healthcare can improve treatment outcomes and quality of life for both medical practitioners and patients.

Technology and global public health, edited by Padmini Murthy and Amy Ansehl, beautifully presents the material. The book has three parts and 22 chapters, plus five reflections. Most of the chapters are authored or coauthored by the editors.

Part 1 has five reflections from eminent experts in the healthcare field. How is space research helping global health? How are universal health coverage (UHC) and sustainable development goals (SDGs) handled in Japan and Georgia? The role of women and gender equality are topics explored by experts as self-reflections.

Part 2’s 12 chapters cover the role of technology in advancing health and meeting three SDG targets. These chapters cover digital health, mHealth, telehealth, and social media in public health. How technology addresses the well-being of women is presented in chapter 3. Case studies from Saudi Arabia, northern Ethiopia, and remote Australia are presented in chapters 5, 6, and 10, respectively. The roles of home care agents, health education, and law in public health are also presented.

Part 3 is on innovative technology in healthcare and has ten chapters. How technology has helped in handling mercury poisoning, trafficking, and oral diseases are presented in chapters 13, 14, and 21, respectively. Telemedicine and data science in India and Taiwan are covered in chapters 18, 19, and 20. Concepts such as digital divide and disaster management are presented in chapters 15 and 17, respectively. The impact of rehabilitation robotics on post-stroke care and recovery is neatly presented.

This well-written book looks at various technologies and their impact in healthcare. It can be useful for medical practitioners, healthcare workers, students, and computer science and engineering faculty members.
